Storyline: Inside the house, a man in his late fifties with tired eyes and a weathered face, sits at a kitchen table cluttered with unopened mail and faded photographs. The room is silent except for the ticking of an old clock, each second a reminder of time slipping away. He stares at the window, lost in thought, his mind echoing with memories of promises once made and dreams now distant.
"I always thought giving back, doing the right thing, would keep me on the right path," he mutters to himself, voice rough from disuse. He picks up the photo, tracing the edge with a trembling finger. "But what good are promises, or dreams, if you leave everyone else behind?"
Reluctantly, he stands and moves to the door, peering out at the street he’s watched for decades. He’s haunted by the knowledge that clinging to this house means clinging to the past, that the world won’t wait for him to catch up. "Everything I know, everything I believe... it can’t just be about holding on," he whispers.
He paces, torn between the comfort of familiarity and the urgency of change. The words echo in his mind: "We all know he needs to sell the place so we can save the human race." He thinks of the lies he’s told himself, the lives lost to inaction, and feels the weight of responsibility settle heavily on his shoulders.
He hesitates at the threshold, memories rushing over him as he grips the doorknob. "How do we get to the truth?" he wonders aloud. Closing his eyes, he breathes deeply and finally steps through the doorway, leaving the past behind.
As he moves forward, he thinks of everyone he’s known, everyone he’s lost, and everyone who still needs him. "It’s not about promises or dreams anymore," he says, voice strong. "It’s about truth—and what I do with it, now."
Promises Or Dreams
Was a time in my life I knew I’d find my way
Giving back to the good would help me keep things straight
Now I’ve come to find those left behind
Can’t live on promises or dreams
You want things to slow down but you can’t because of time
Every challenge you take is what you thought you’d find
Everything you know all you believe
Can’t live on promises or dreams
There’s a man living in a house
Thinks he knows what it’s all about
We all know he needs to sell the place
So we can save the human race
How many lies how many lives
No sympathy for those that die
How do we get to the truth
So it’s all up to you to be safe and find your way
When you open the door please think of all that’s changed
Everyone you know is in your sight
Can’t live on promises or dreams
There’s a man living in a house
Thinks he knows what it’s all about
We all know he needs to sell the place
So we can save the human race
How many lies how many lives
No sympathy for those that die
We need to get to the truth
